I packed 18 orders in one day for this video, and the mix showed me what clothing still moves on eBay. Winter coats and brand-name basics did most of the work. The older inventory is what I had to fight to clear. Here's what sold, what it went for, and what I'd do with it next time.

Why did sweaters and jackets move so fast?
Winter had just arrived, and sweaters and jackets were the category moving quickest. I said on camera that coats and jackets were flying off the shelf and that I had no room left for more. The Diesel sport coat at $53 plus $12.95 shipping was the top sale, and the vintage Ben Sherman wool sweater went for $10 plus $8.95. The North Face sweater drew a $14 offer plus $8.95 shipping.
Seasonal pieces sell when people need them, so plan your buying around the weather. List the warm stuff before the cold hits, not after it has already arrived.
How did the older stock sell?
It sold cheap, because I'd marked it down hard. Items more than three months old were on a 50 percent off markdown, and I had a 30 percent off coupon on top of that. That's how the H&M women's jeans went for $5 plus $8.95 shipping. I was ready to get them out of here and clear the space, and that was worth more to me than holding out for a better price.
Old Navy shows the other side. A used women's long-sleeve shirt sold for $8 plus $5.95 shipping. It's a slow seller, but I'd still pick one up for 25 cents because the brand has a big following. A small buy price on a brand people look for can still turn into a sale.
Where did this inventory come from?
Most of the items in this batch came from a storage unit buyout I did a couple months before this video. The Ben Sherman sweater was part of that buyout. Ben Sherman isn't a brand I usually pick up, and it still sold. Buyouts can hand you new-with-tags stock in brands you wouldn't normally buy. The results vary, though, so judge each one by what you can actually see in the unit before you pay.
How do I check what these items sell for now?
Search the item on eBay, then turn on the Sold filter so you see completed sales instead of active listings. Use those sold results to set a range, and compare the condition and tags to the listings you're looking at. Don't price off an asking price, because an active listing hasn't sold yet.
What should I check before I list clothing?
Check the tags and labels first. Several items in this batch were new with tags, including the Calvin Klein button-up at $18 plus $5.95 shipping and the Tommy Bahama at $30 plus $8.95. Note the brand, the size and any date on the label. The Levi's 560s were listed with their make year, 1998, and a tapered leg, which tells a buyer exactly what they're getting.

I'd buy more of the categories that sold first. Coats, jackets and sweaters moved quickly when the weather turned, so I'd aim my buying at the season before it arrives. I'd also watch the slow sellers more closely. The Old Navy shirt sold for $8 and the H&M jeans for $5 after markdowns, which tells me older stock needs a schedule, not a hope. Set a markdown date when you list so the stock doesn't sit on the shelf and eat your space. And keep brands with a following in the mix even when one item is slow, because the next one of the same brand may sell fast.
